“The DTES Small Arts Grant Program makes considerable and necessary contributions to positive change in the lives of so many artists and their community. It is an important part of building capacity, sustaining and growing our arts and cultural sector in the DTES. I love this program as it directly invests in people, creativity and the arts. At the Carnegie Community Centre, we believe the arts play an essential role in our everyday lives, our cultural identity and our economy - they inspire, challenge and educate us. As part of the DTES arts and cultural sector, the Carnegie Centre is pleased to support and showcase the many multi-talented neighborhood artists that have received small arts grants.”
“At Vancouver Foundation, our vision is to build healthy, vibrant, and livable communities across B.C. and the Downtown Eastside Small Arts Grant Program enables us to do that by helping to address inequity in the arts,” says Kevin McCort, President and CEO of Vancouver Foundation.
“We’re proud to partner with the Carnegie Community Centre to provide small grants to emerging artists in the downtown eastside that help build their capacity by advancing their practice and increasing the visibility of their artwork. The Emerge Festival is an exciting opportunity to showcase and celebrate the vibrant arts and cultural sector of the DTES with the community that inspires it. Congratulations to all the artists featured in this year’s Festival! We look forward to seeing what’s in store this year.”

Emerge Festival, the annual celebration of DTES Small Arts Grants recipients represents an exciting initiative, first undertaken by Vancouver Foundation and Carnegie Community Centre nine years ago. The 2019 Group Art Exhibition, Performances, Readings, and Cultural Sharing highlight the work of a few talented artists who have their creative practice rooted in the Downtown Eastside [DTES].
