Christine Monika Masalska was born in Poland in the 1960’s where she worked in television and then in theatre as a set designer and decorator. She has lived in Canada for thirty years, in Calgary and Toronto and now in Vancouver. While living in Calgary and working at a community television station, Christine began painting outdoors scenes onto leather as an experiment. Her pieces were exhibited at an art gallery in Toronto, and she began receiving commissions. Later, she began making metal structures and painting with various mediums – most of which she gave away as gifts. A self-taught artist, Christine experimented with different styles of art in order to educate herself and explore the world of art. Her preferred medium is oil painting, and because she paints for personal satisfaction, she prefers to keep her artwork or give away as gifts. Christine likes bright, joyful colours, bold textures, and happy scenes of people and nature. “I like people to see it and feel joy and see the beauty of the outdoors,” she says.
