I have been painting on and off for about fourteen years. I’ve had one solo and one group show and have mostly been working using paper. With this small arts grant I will be doing ten paintings of various sizes with the largest being five-by-five feet. I’m mainly interested in Abstract Artists, for their intense yet seemly use of color. The notion of stripping away the obvious and making it something different is very appealing to me. Hans Hofmann’s Push/Pull theory is a great example of this in my view. Lee Krasner was another wonderful painter who in my opinion didn’t get the credit or respect she deserved. And Mark Rothko. Brilliant. And finally Jack Bush. He was a great Canadian Abstract painter who was involved with the important Toronto based Painters Eleven – one of the first abstract artists’ groups in Canada.
