Blake is an Ojibwa (Chippewa- “the canoe people”, Great Lakes) artist from the Peguis Reserve, Manitoba. He studied art at Capilano University, the Banff School of Fine Arts, Emily Carr University, and in other art centers throughout BC and the USA. Blake has explored a wide variety of styles including Art Deco, Rococo, Japanese, and Navajo to name of few.
Teaching pottery in Vancouver has given Blake much pleasure. He taught at the Carnegie Community Center for 24 years, and is now teaching at the Gathering Place.
His pottery is in the National Gallery of Canada, Ottawa and he has presented pots to former BC Premier, Mike Harcourt and to the Governor General of Canada (90-95), Ray Hnatyshyn.
Blake is known not only for his exquisite ceramic designs, but also for his gorgeous glaze combinations; through years of experimentation he has developed signature colors that dazzle the eyes.
