A licensed pharmacist, Alan received his first degree in music composition from UBC. He travels to Fort St. John regularly to practise pharmacy, but also works at the Downtown Community Health Centre. A long-time Chinese Community Library volunteer, he is interested in bridging the communication gap between Chinatown elders and other DTES residents. His other involvements include curatorial work for the “Where East Meets West” exhibition, Greeting Fluency presentations, and public workshops for the Vancouver Chinese Music Ensemble. Moving between different "worlds," Alan explores the dualities and contrasts in life through music and painting: East-and-West, realism-vs.-abstraction, city life-and-northern space.
