pataSola dance's new piece is an exploration of life, death and spirituality, a commentary on the reality of war and destruction in a world fuelled by greed. Via a collage of dance, poetry, photography, video, light, music and textiles, this multidisciplinary immersive work promises an intimate and bespoke encounter.
Join artists Candelario Andrade, Salome Nieto, Eduardo Meneses-Olivar, Celine Pinget, Shauna Paull, Jaylene Pratt, Andreas Schuld, Katherine Soucie, Taylor Janzen and Xin Xuan Song this summer.
UMBRAL There is a Way has been created in partnership with the Roundhouse Community Centre and the Vancouver Latin American Cultural Centre. This production enjoys the generous support of the Shadbolt Centre for the Arts, the City of Vancouver, the British Columbia Arts Council and the Province of British Columbia.
pataSola dance was founded in 2013 by collaborators Eduardo Meneses-Olivar and Salome Nieto. Highly influenced by “Realismo Magico” and Butoh, pataSola dance’s work intersects the line between the material and spiritual worlds, exploring themes of ritual, myth and spirituality and their significance within contemporary dance. The company strives to produce work that is challenging, provocative and innovative in performance and presentation. pataSola dance has performed locally, and internationally at festivals in Mexico, Thailand, Nicaragua and Argentina.
Katherine Soucie is one of our grantees this year. See her artist page.
